This was a top for the oldest, M5562, cut to top length in size 8 for her. She was self-conscious about wearing ties, so I had a bright idea to insert elastic into the tops of the bodice, make diaper cover and have a cute sunsuit for the baby. Worked like a charm, good pattern... Now the oldest wants her top back... I told her there is plenty of the same fabric to make a different top for her that would be easier to wear, maybe her TNT top... Also listed it for sale as I have enough (I think) to make another set. My baby wears about 18 mos, but it looks like it could adjust from about 18 mos to 3T. I also have a cute citrus print.

New things in etsy shop

Since I have a showcase today, I added some baby things to the shop that were already made. Great for baby gifts. I will repeat the showcase on August 9 as I have experienced a lot of traffic to the site.

Showcase Day tomorrow on Etsy

LadybugDuds will have a showcase day on children's tomorrow on etsy, so take a look and see if there's something you like. I may try again next month, those showcase days go quickly.

A hot day got hotter...

Today was promising to be a pretty warm day, our high is 98 deg., but it feels like much more with the heat index. We have had up to 108 recently and little rain. Then the house, set on 80, started getting higher and higher, up to 85. We called a friend who works for an A/C guy locally and he had him come over, too. Our capicitor in the outside unit went out. Luckily he replaced it and the house is getting better. If you live in Texas, south Texas, you will know what it felt like. Yuck, yuck and yuck... Needless to say, too hot to sew, that room gets hot anyways. Will work on something later...

Finished my first real order!

I finally got the onesie set out in the mail. I am hoping it reaches her quickly. I am ready to go to the next project! As far as MJ conversations go, if I offended anyone, sorry. I just think the media has gone overboard. I have a 2nd pillowcase dress cut and working on picking bias tape and trim. Hopefully I will get it listed this week. Thank you for all your kind comments and well wishes.

A new addition to the shop

This is a Vera pillowcase dress, about a size 7, using elastic casing to pull the bodice in and using bias tape to make the ties. It is decorated with daisy trim at the hem and two daisies at the ties in front. I will adding more as I can, as I need to sell some things to have some cash later this month when I go to Houston to visit my grandmother. She is not expected to live more than about 3-6 months as her cancer has come back and moving rapidly. At 90, the doctors are not suggesting more chemo. With our household income being so tight, I need some cash for the trip home. I have others to make and add, specifically a brown and cream lattice print and two matching cases with gold and orange stripes, really vintage, but were new in the packages from JC Penney, I think. I have had them for a while and hadn't done anything with them.

Doesn't that beat all...

We just saw on the internet where the Michael Jackson memorial is taxpayer-funded. Now, doesn't that beat all... That is insane, if it true. Sorry, just had to clear that off my chest. Working on the onesie set to mail out. I may go ahead and make a few more and post them for sale, they are great for shower gifts.

Vogue 9777

Well, the dress was a bust, it stopped raw edge right above my knees. I do not do short dresses anymore and the flare of it reminded me of a maternity dress I had and used often. Now I cut a 16 on top and after the dart went to an 18. I may need to learn how to do an FBA for a small adjustment. The 18 portion probably did not help the overall look. I also did a swayback adjustment, I couldn't tell. The sleeves went on easily, reminded me of the sleeves on my daughter's pattern from Simplicity. After deliberations, decided to cut it off to a long-ish top. I need to let Mike see it, I may need to curve the side seams in a bit. I also decided to turn under the neckline and double stitch (still haven't got a twin needle). Child #3 walked in and I swerved a bit. I am not ripping it out of the knit. I just left it, it is not really noticeable. Overall happy with the look, maybe more so after I adjust the sides so it is not so mama-looking. I may post a review, I am

More Ramblings...

I received some pretty encouraging comments from you readers about my pursuing teaching. Thank you! It may not work out for this next year as I would have to become certified and the state agency won't be holding workshops again until Fall (they are in the middle of the summer one now), but I plan on doing it asap as who knows if something comes up mid-year... My husband is in San Antonio as we speak checking out something, too, that may help his business. So wish him some luck and a prayer that it comes out positively... I also got my first etsy sale, a leopard print onesie set! I am working on a 1990 Vogue A-line basic dress. An experiment, shall we say, out of 1.95 knit from Fabric.com, so if it fails, I won't be too crushed... It had good lines and I needed something simple to help the mojo along. If it works, it will make a good basic dress. I am blending views to have cap sleeves as I don't do sleeveless too often, makes my shoulders look bigger and they don&

Ramblings

I haven't really sewn much this week, so nothing new to mention here. Just some items to note: Went and spoke with the local school superintendant about teaching. I have to apply for alternative certification and the agency handling that won't have another class until September. So I don't know if it will happen for the upcoming school year. We are exploring alternative sources of income as we cannot survive on one job. Today's cost of living is not allowing it for us, and we are not extravagant people. I just have to make do the best I can for now until a position opens up and I am certified. I need to finish some of the dresses I made up for sale, but have little motivation at the moment. I don't know why, the mojo is stalling... I think this could be a good part-time income, too. It is so hot here, too... At least we have had bits of rain lately...
