Adventures in Vintage Resales... fka adventures in baby-sewing

Popped by the local shop for an extra piece of fabric for a shirt for daughter #1 to make the facings. I didn't have enough, imagine that! She was closed today, many shops out here are closed on Mondays if they are open Saturday and are sole-owners. But she was inside and let me in. It was worth it since a $3-4 sale turned into $19 for her. Sarah is the owner and is a great gal. She takes online orders and has a cute selection.

I found a cute little top that can be really cool. I made it for my oldest using 2 fat quarters for the bodice/sleeve ruffles and 1 fat quarter for the straps. I found the material at Seams Like Home here in our little town. When I told Sarah what I was making with them and how I was trying to make little girls things to sell, she said she would showcase something in the shop. I told her it would have to be made from fabric bought there, hence, a shirt would be great since I could make it from fats. I will go back next week, though and buy some yardage to make a dress to also showcase. I think in thanks I need to plug her generosity on this blog. Lisa's from the Hem Line arrived today, including a B36 of the Butterick that blogger "Sincerely, Kate" is working on (I couldn't pass it up, finding what you really want is so rare), the replacement of the shift, a girls size 8 jumper/pants/jacket/skirt combo and a girls size 10 summer wardrobe from the 60's of simple tops, shorts, a-line sleeveless shifts. Look for the jumper for my oldest daughter in a flower power corduroy soon. I bought that pattern because it is simple, streamlined and suited for corduroy. Standard A-line pattern connected at a high waist. That is tagged next after the 40's dress is completed. Ran out of thread, got more last night as well as other supplies (shoulder pads, etc.), no fabric (gasp), probably won't work on it until next week. Sewing with all kids around is impossible and frustrating. Quilt piecing is about the most I can do. Maybe hand hemming and finishing. Is it like that for everyone with small children? I ...

The Hem Line. Recently I had purchased S5960 in a medium from Lisa, but since it is a shift, I am afraid to adjust to fit me; I really wanted the large so the bust and hips would be right. I saw she had a large on her site yesterday, she is sending it to me. On the S1541 homefront (remember the series about the 40's with that name?), I am down to facings being hand-secured, need the zipper and hem. I also need to think about a belt/sash to define the waist. Today I topstitched the waist and had to rip and redo some. We are getting a cool...
