Free Patterns!

Two to give away, two drawings:

1st up: McCall 5742, the Christmas dress for the oldest. I have no intention of making this one again. The dress is cut to the largest size, but I did cut off the skirts, the extensions are present. Would need to be taped. It is a great party dress for sizes 6-7-8. Could also be made in baby cord, broadcloth, velveteen, linen blends. Would also make a great Easter dress.


2nd up: Simplicity 2929, I did not like this style for me. It was not good on me, I guess I am too short and roundish, so I looked like a puff! But someone else may have better luck! Now I cut out View B, the black polka dot on the model, in an 18. It is suitable for silkies, Challis, Brepe Back Satin, Jacquards, Silk-Rayons, Gauze, Double Georgette, Jerseys, lightweight linen blends. One or two bodice piece(s) is(are) slightly mangled from the baby reaching out and grabbing it. I managed to work with it. The skirt is fine, I think. Of course, since I did not use the sleeveless version, that is still intact. I think view C, the rounded sleeved version, is also not cut out. If you are adventurous...

I did comment on the woman's dress last week! Then I had to repair windows and it took forever to get up! Oh no!

(I love the kids dresses but I am done with all that!)

The girl's dress is a nice style. Have a 4 y/o granddaughter just starting to sew for. Might be a bit large this year but she's in a 5 now. Good idea on the giveaway. I have a few I accidentally bought 2 of and might try doing that.

Is it oppressive?

Not much sewing going on here, but I have been cruising the internet more than usual and was not feeling well today. I came across a post on a blog today (Gertie) about whether vintage clothes are oppressive, going backwards. I do not think this at all, I think it is individuality, flattering and enhancing the feminine look, wishing for simpler life and times, and probably other ideas out there. I also believe men and women are different, but capable of being equals in various ways, but there are things that are inherently male and female. Different but equal. And have no problem with dressing up the physical to be attractive. Not to the extreme, but to look neat, appropriately dressed, made-up. I am not a feminist in the traditional sense, I am a stay at home mom with kids. I believe the differences are good. Free Friday Patterns

Tomorrow being Friday, more free vintage patterns: Simplicity 5502, yr 1973, size 18, B40, W32, H42 - dress/jumper with lined and shaped yoke, back zipper, high round neckline. Simplicity 8541, yr 1969, size 18, B40, W31, H42 - button trimmed dress with back zipper, shaped bias roll collar and a pleat simulating an opening, short sleeves or sleeveless. Post a comment and I will draw this weekend. And to last weeks', now I have your info & they will go out tomorrow. At this rate, I may thin my stash quicker than I thought. Once my kids go back to school, I may go through the fabric stash and make little scrap bags for quilting scraps for giveaways. On the home sewing front, I was able to get one top put together for daughter and the second is also sewn together. Both need bias tape finishing (handwork) which can be done in the evening in front of the TV. Maybe tomorrow I will get the remaining pants cut out, bringing her total to a possible 5 pairs of capri/shorts for school...
