One thing I have done is a vintage dress for youngest child to be Jackie Kennedy in a president's day project. I used Vintage Simplicity 5904 from the mid 60's. A line sheath with side pleats and a three quarter sleeved jacket. I made it all the more difficult by lining the dress and jacket, but I ended the dress lining above pleated area. Her face is cropped out, but she had the sweetest yellow vintage hat and the gloves. All was well for her.Myrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16163175961766563965noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9175865861657320540.post-7797010899165132642013-07-09T16:45:00.001-07:002013-07-09T16:45:31.273-07:00A new-to-me fun etsy shopA new-to-me fun etsy shop
I only recently started blog reading again. I have been so busy with four kids and working, there's not much time for fun stuff. My husband is now working for a friend's start-up company for oilfield services. I took over a lot of the operations of his freight brokerage business that is in our home office. I walk past my things and want to sit down, but it hasn't happened much recently.
At least I am blog reading and learning from all of you. I really haven't done much either except crochet baby hats for sale, seen on the etsy sidebar. I don't have a working desktop computer right now, so blogging is not on the priority list. I am finishing an Easter dress for the youngest, hemming now. I have a denim jacket in progress for her, too and a top for me. I promise a picture soon.Myrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16163175961766563965noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9175865861657320540.post-78405578270708613472012-06-21T07:26:00.000-07:002012-06-21T07:26:18.929-07:00Versatile Simplicity 8848

I cannot find a photo of the pattern online, it's either 1980's or 1990's, girls range. First two of the top, broadcloth with a beautiful eyelet overlay on the front yoke. The last is the gown, cotton voile-like fabric, insertion on the bottom of the front yoke, knee length. This part of the house sees the family activity: there are two full baths, one with shower, one with tub, connected by a short hall with the closet. My washer and dryer are in the shower bathroom, so the closet is three feet from the dryer. It is unusual, but this section of the house was an add-on by the previous owners. The kids dress in these baths every morning and bathe there in the evenings. The girls' bedroom is off the shower bath, but the boys are all the way in the front of the house. For the last few years, all the current clothes were in my master bedroom to ease dressing, but we are overwhelmed by laundry baskets. I am not 100% done, but 5 out of 6 sets of clothes are now relocated. The kids are in cubbies, like you buy at Lowe's, with the cloth cube baskets. Sunday things are hung. We already had a decent setup as we installed Closetmaid rods/shelves a few years back. I just worked with it and slid those cubbies in. I found hidden fabric in there (oops!), clothes that needed to go, my first sewing machine (a used Kenmore that I loved). I still have some things to sort through, but it is definitely workable. For larger families, family closets can be a good thing. For us, it may be a lifesaver. I washed and dried clothes today and took them directly into the closet, sorted and put them away right there. No more clutter in our bedroom. For more on them, check out pinterest or do a search. The ultra-large family, Duggars, from Arkansas, have a room-sized one. I took from what I found and worked it with the lowest cost option, the cubbies and our existing framework of Closetmaid.Myrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16163175961766563965noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9175865861657320540.post-6083422626269873212012-05-11T14:18:00.000-07:002012-05-11T14:18:22.489-07:00A Busy LifeIt has been too busy to post - it has been months... Work, kids, husband, baseball, I barely have time to get laundry done, much less sewing, but I have been working on the blocks from The Farmer's Wife Quilt book, Swoon quilt pattern and a few other minor things. When I get the chance to take some pictures, I will. It does feel great to post a bit again and catch up reading on ya'll's blogs.Myrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16163175961766563965noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9175865861657320540.post-66890499128914144022011-07-12T20:26:00.001-07:002011-07-12T20:27:56.677-07:00LION BRAND YARN - Amazing is...AMAZING. I got some recently in a fabric.com order and love it. Wool blend, with heathery colors blended so it stripes for you - wow. I just ordered some more... almost every color as I am making crocheted lacy scarves for Christmas craft sale booths.Myrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16163175961766563965noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9175865861657320540.post-91872723131647844062011-06-25T19:04:00.000-07:002011-06-25T19:10:17.188-07:00I am so out of touch with sewing right nowI have had a hard time getting to the machine lately. You bloggers are so busy at your sewing and I haven't touched the machine to speak of in weeks. 4 kids home for summer, work out side the home everyday for 4-5 hours per day plus helping my husband with his invoices, in and out of the house and car, library trips, store, bible schools, etc, in 100 degree weather are taking a toll on me. I am exhausted in the evenings. Plus child #2, the handicapped one, had day surgery, so I have had to keep up with him healing. Hopefully some sewing will happen soon.

On the other hand, tomorrow is our oldest's 10th birthday - 10 years ago tonight we got the call for our baby being born and to head up to Dallas to meet her (she's adopted). We had a party for her today. We also celebrated our 20th anniversary this month.Myrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16163175961766563965noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9175865861657320540.post-44806755990962471452011-05-17T19:52:00.000-07:002011-05-17T19:56:10.084-07:00No sewingJust cakes, about 12 so far this month, many are half-sheets, so I have been busy. I am grateful as it is good income for the work. But baking a few cakes on Fridays and decorating most of the days on Saturdays, then church on Sundays leaves me a bit worn out for a few days afterwards, plus all the school stuff, work on Mondays, Tuesdays, doesn't leave much more than Wednesdays and Thursdays to recoup and regroup before beginning again on Fridays. The laundry is piling up... I think it reproduces on its own if I leave it too long... Hopefully I will be sewing again soon.Myrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16163175961766563965noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9175865861657320540.post-47728216093832070972011-05-13T13:19:00.000-07:002011-05-13T13:27:18.869-07:00Better Late than Never - Easter Dresses<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fSNGntEaBHo/Tc2SebFXGSI/AAAAAAAAAuY/Y8o8NciiGqc/s200/dresses.bmp" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5606298162510108962" />
OK, here are the dresses. The older one's was Simplicity 3329, no date, probably late 1950's or early 1960's. There is no reference to in on the internet to link a photo and I am not in a position to photograph it right now. The dress picture is actually copied from facebook from Easter. It goes into a v-backed neck and should have a bow at the CB which I left off. The little one's was a 1940's mail order pinafore style, not even sure where the pattern is at the moment. Both are from cotton voile pindotted swiss with broadcloth accents/binding. Both are fully lined. I completed the older one's over 3 days of working and the inside is barely finished off, as quickly as I could do it. She would only wear it once or twice anyways, so I decided not to waste much time on it. The little one's is better finished as she still wears dresses at the drop of the hat. These were fun to make, I wish I had more of the fabric for a top for me. It is so watercolor-pretty.Myrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16163175961766563965noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9175865861657320540.post-18501371561741547252011-05-06T18:23:00.001-07:002011-05-06T18:30:47.856-07:00Two New Patterns in the shop<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BL1s54e_WgA/TcSfUmKiTSI/AAAAAAAAAuI/STwn-UZLrsE/s200/100_2585.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5603779012546678050" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DGnwdLZDdMY/TcSfUdOh1pI/AAAAAAAAAuA/WKYff2aKZBI/s200/100_2584.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5603779010147505810" />
Actually there are a few more, some maxi dresses as well, but these two are to die for, I think. I bought the Simplicity 7384 back before I knew much about fitting, notice it is way smaller than my size. It's just not worth the trouble for me. The Butterick is closer, but I really don't think I will ever get to it. So they are up for sale, to find new homes, to be loved by someone else. I also have an awesome Gunne Sax pattern listed as well as two Simplicity Designer fashions, one that has been seen on the net before. I really need to cut my pattern stash down, please help me.
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4R4wx6ys8kU/TcSgDeqRb8I/AAAAAAAAAuQ/gTDWS3fg4IE/s200/100_2581.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5603779817986158530" />Myrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16163175961766563965noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9175865861657320540.post-22597949597081582102011-05-03T10:48:00.000-07:002011-05-03T10:49:40.409-07:00May Coupon15% off $20.00 total sale - 20DOLLARS15PERCENTMyrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16163175961766563965noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9175865861657320540.post-45206912315992522302011-04-26T07:42:00.000-07:002011-04-26T07:43:11.421-07:00New Coupon Code10% at LadybugDuds - coupon code SPRINGSALE - until April 30.Myrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16163175961766563965noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9175865861657320540.post-54478550362137245222011-04-21T06:43:00.000-07:002011-04-21T06:46:35.916-07:00Easter saleThe Etsy shop has a 15% off sale - EASTER is the code - off all things listed. It was a mail order vintage pattern, big pinafore style ruffles set into princess seams. Princess seams for a little princess. I will photograph all later. On to the older girl's dress, which is still in partial pieces - bodice is about done, skirt not yet. She will also need more of the purple for her sash. Bias binding ate up most of what I had bought. Remember the aqua floral I posted earlier. That's the main fabric. As far as mine, no further progress and I was contemplating another that was in progress out of a dusty darker blue linen blend. It's a mix of my Christmas bodice (vintage) and a flared knee length skirt from another vintage pattern. We will see...Myrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16163175961766563965noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9175865861657320540.post-31747912474684070132011-04-13T09:33:00.000-07:002011-04-13T09:39:17.519-07:00Vogue 8511 #2Almost became a UFO, but I jumped back into it so I can wear it Easter Sunday. I substituted sleeves for cap sleeves from another pattern. It works, but should have removed some of the ease. This was a straight 18 I cut and had to take in all princess seams (good news) and I think the skirt may be a bit wide, but I will decide that before I hem if it needs some pegging or slimming. I did baste the back seam in and basted the waist seam and decided it will work with a small side zip only so I can close the back up entirely (I hate back zips on me, they always wave in the swayback area). It's Pontederoma knit, so it gives enough to slide it on with the side zip. I had a hard time finding a dark purple back zip and only had small ones on hand, so this is good news. I will need to find a dull metallic belt as I plan on using my dull metallic short-heeled slides if I don't find something else this weekend. I also have two girls dresses to work on - nothing like waiting until the last minute.Myrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16163175961766563965noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9175865861657320540.post-21855804483436703672011-04-13T05:01:00.000-07:002011-04-13T05:02:28.094-07:00Dress Up Capes
This is a cute blog for pattern for kids doing a giveaway:
http://www.thedressupdrawer.blogspot.com/Myrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16163175961766563965noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9175865861657320540.post-24568834617280560042011-04-06T12:58:00.000-07:002011-04-06T13:02:39.255-07:00New patterns in the etsy shop<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HCjUD8YXU_4/TZzGtejL1VI/AAAAAAAAAt4/Jeiuzen-v4M/s200/100_2569.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5592563321884366162" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_W1Gm5Sz0hk/TZzGtLlt5YI/AAAAAAAAAtw/P_3aDnQpfwM/s200/100_2568.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5592563316794713474" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FNqMnHaIfQM/TZzGcT7QMnI/AAAAAAAAAto/FzIh8sqy3to/s200/100_2567.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5592563026974749298" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AzzlgOkpwhs/TZzGcPbllMI/AAAAAAAAAtg/cr2Tg0SfiYw/s200/100_2566.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5592563025768191170" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gnec7fjd-kI/TZzGb4EylbI/AAAAAAAAAtY/Wsd8veiiX34/s200/100_2565.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5592563019498558898" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_CXjrU9m69w/TZzGbgdvmrI/AAAAAAAAAtQ/gArZiJE7fEU/s200/100_2564.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5592563013160770226" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pS2pCD39mr4/TZzGbs3z4sI/AAAAAAAAAtI/e9D-ISOOonM/s200/100_2563.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5592563016491328194" />Myrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16163175961766563965noreply@blogger.com0
