I would use a back zip, stabilizing the area with fusible interfacing before inserting the zip. I can see why, it's pretty great! Since you are using a knit, you could get away with no seam finish, since it won't ravel. You also might be able to forego the zipper entirely if you are lowering the neckline enough to go over the head, although a side zip would allow for a snugger fit in the waist - generally a good thing!
